Sailors dream (L.Tillet) Marmara Publishing

While i was in the studio Tigruss with my buddy Pepe making what is to become an album called ¨vibrations, yours and mine¨ i recorded a couple of extra songs to get the feel of the way i wanted to record, which was doing a vocal and a guitar part at the same time alone without drums or bass or any kinda of backing live to tape as i wanted the songs to have a more open feel. This song Sailors dream was i good place to start as those guitar notes act as the tempo, anyway i wont bore you with the process and just say that we decided this song would be something we would work more on and build it up so to speak. I sent the song to Hendrik Rover to play some pedal steel guitar on it and the rest was either me or Pepe.

Sailors dream is a song written by the great Louis Tillet.
I had seen the Wet Taxis at the ripe old age of 16 at the Sydney Trade Union Club and maybe once again at the Mosman Hotel? but my mind can´t confirm this, anyway the first time i started to wonder about this song was from spending most Monday nights during 1988 and 89´ at the Sandringham Hotel watching a band of Rotating musicians called Paris Green, most if not all of those nights Louis Tillet sang and sometimes played piano, with Charlie Owen on guitar and Louis Burdett on drums, these 3 along with Penny Ikinger on guitar and a bunch of other great musicians made up the Ego Trippers at the gates of hell and the Aspersion Cast which were the band names to back Louis Tillet on his 2 wonderful albums released on Citadel Records. After this big band (and it was big with at times 2 pianos and 3 piece horn section and backing singers!) kinda ground to a halt i would still always see Louis playing around town with a more stripped down band that at times at Jim Dickson on Bass and Nick Fisher on Drums. Sailors dream was always in the set and was played in many different ways including with the Duo that was Louis on piano and Charlie on acoustic guitar, sorry for rambling on but in short what I´m saying is i have always loved this song. I hope you enjoy this version and if you do and you have not heard the original PLEASE go check it out thru a 45 on Citadel Records and or on the many other wonderful records that Louis has released over the years.

Best wishes and THANKS to Louis!!
