Sailors dream (L Tillet) Marmara Publishing

While recording an album to be titled ¨vibrations, yours and mine¨ I decided recorded a few extra songs to get the feel of the way i wanted to record the album (basically me alone recording a live guitar and vocal together without the backing of a band so that the recordings had a more space with an open and free feel) This song ´sailors dream´ was a song we decided to work on more and build it up so to speak, so we added bass, drums more guitars and also sent it to Hendrik Rover to play some pedal steel guitar on. I hope you enjoy.

Sailors dream is a song that i have always loved, it is written by the great Louis Tillet. I first seen a band Louis was the singer in called the Wet Taxis playing with the Celibate rifles at the Sydney Trade Union Club in around 1986/87 ?? and i seen them one more time at either the Mosman Hotel or the Sydney Cove tavern?? anyway i dont remember i whole lot about either of those concerts but what i do remember is this song catching my ear while spending most Monday nights thru 1988/89 at the Sandringham Hotel watching a rotating cast of Musicians called Paris Green. Almost every time i seen Paris Green the band had Louis Tillet singing (and sometimes playing piano) Charlie Owen playing guitar and Louis Burdett playing drums and a cast of rotaing bass players and piano players and singers. Sailors dream was the song (and The Pusher by Steppenwolf!) was a song i always looked forward to Paris Green playing, the core of that band along with Penny Ikinger on guitar went onto be part of Louis´s backing bands on his 2 wonderful records that were released by Citadel records called Ego tripping at the gates of hell and A cast of Aspersions. I seen this big band (and i mean big at times 9 or 10 piece band!!) many times and Sailors dream was always in the set, i also went to see Louis play with a more stripped down band which included Jim Dickson on Bass and Nick Fisher on Drums many times as well AND Sailors dream was always there, anyway I´m rambling on here but what i guess I´m trying to say is that i have seen this song performed many times in many different guises and still when i hear it today it does the same thing to me that it did all those years ago.
PLEASE!!! if this is the first time you are hearing this song go back and check out the original 45 released by Citadel Records or try to find it on the many wonderful records that Louis has released over the years.

Best wishes and i hope you enjoy
